  MY RAM 1500 MANUFACTURED 2013 STOPPED SUDDENLY AND REFUSED TO START UP AGAIN WITH ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT BEEN WORKING REGULARLY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME HAPPENED TO ME AFTER TWO WEEKS ONLY. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO MY CLOSEST AGENT. THE FIRST REPORT DIDN'T DIAGNOSE ANY DEFECT ON THE TRUCK. I CONSIDER THIS INCIDENT AS A VERY HIGH AND CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

  To whom it may concern, I'm currently experiencing an intermittent flashing red steering column and exclamation point on my dash as well as the power steering disengaging, forcing me to manually wrestle with the steering wheel while trying to control the truck without crashing and potentially killing myself as well as others. I googled this issue and came across the instructions on how reset the EPS by resetting the system by turning the truck off, then back on and turning the steering wheel fully to the left and holding then to the right and holding. This was just a temporary fix until it happened again. Then I reached out to the dealership and they suggested that I reach out to Ram Customer Care. In the process I also found a FCA Equipment Safety Recall VB9/ NHTSA 19E-077 Electronic Power Steering Gear that covered my year and model truck. Ram Customer Care asked me for my VIN and the issue that I was experiencing but stated there were no recalls for my vehicle VIN. They also suggested that I reach out to NHTSA.GOV to file a complaint so that NHTSA can add my VIN to the above or any recall dealing with the EPS Rack & Pinion system so the dealership can fix this hazardous issue stated in any recall or lawsuit for the 2013-2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks. I am requesting that my VIN be added to the above or any other recalls that are associated with safely operating my truck to protect myself and others while driving on our highways and byways.

  Electronic power steering intermittent failure. Vehicles power steering ‘service now’ light comes on and abruptly shuts off power steering and will abruptly turn back on several miles/ days later. This causes a severe safety risk as the module will autocorrect steering mid turn or shutdown completely causing the vehicle to lose control. The problem has been reproduced by a third party mechanic stating that the EPS needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700 and the part is on back order/ unsure when they can get the unit.

  I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM A SHORT TRIP ON THE INTERSTATE AND I HAD JUST MADE A TURN ON THE STREET WE LIVE ON WHEN I HEARD A DING SOUND. MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY THAT SHOWED, "SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL". IT STAYED ON ONLY A SECOND AND DISAPPEARED. I DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE ANY EFFECT TO THE DRIVING CAPABILITY, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT MESSAGE HAS APPEARED AND I NOTICE THAT THERE ARE TWO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED HERE ABOUT THE SAME MESSAGE. I THINK I'LL GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AT LEAST LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT AND SEE WHAT THEY DO. I HAD BEEN USING MY CRUISE CONTROL ON THE WAY BACK FROM MY TRIP WHICH I NORMALLY DO USE AND I NOTE THAT IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THE PERSON WAS USING THEIRS TOO.   Brought this vehicle and drove it for 1 month before power steering went out. I was driving on the interstate at a high speed when the power steering light came on. I was unable to steer the vehicle off the road so I had to stop on the interstate and call a tow truck.

  The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH, the defroster was engaged but failed to respond or perform as designed. The contact rolled down the windows due to the loss of visibility of the roadway. Additionally, the vehicle lost heating system functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that he recalibrated the defroster actuator; however, the failure persisted, and the vehicle would only blow cold air. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V177000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 206,500.

  PERIODICALLY WHEN TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL THE DASH AND RADIO SCREEN TURN OFF AND RE-BOOT. WHEN MAKING A TURN, LEFT OR RIGHT, EVERY DISPLAY AND GAUGE ON THE DASH AND THE RADIO/ BACK UP CAMERA SCREEN ALL SHUT OFF AND RE-BOOT AS IF YOU HAVE JUST PUT THE KEY IN AND TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION. CUMBERLAND CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1550 INTERSTATE DR, COOKEVILLE, TN 38501, (931) 263-0321) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

  UPON STARTING VEHICLE MADE LOUD TICKING NOISE, AND WAS RUNNING A BIT ROUGH, NEXT MORNING AGAIN STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT WAS MAKING TICKING NOISE BUT NOW WAS LOSING HORSEPOWER SO WE HAD TRUCK TOWED TO SHOP THINKING COULD BE SOMETHING EASY, TRUCK MAINTENANCE MAYBE. MECHANIC STATED THE C CLIP ON THE LIFTER HAD BROKEN AND THE TRUCK WAS UTILIZING 7 CYLINDERS AND NOT 8. MECHANIC STATED HE COULDN'T PIN POINT A CAUSE FOR THIS TO HAVE HAPPENED, BUT THE REPAIR WOULD BE COSTLY. UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, I WAS LOOKING ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THIS WAS UNDER RECALL OR IF THERE WAS A REASONABLE CAUSE FOR THIS TYPE OF BREAKDOWN HOWEVER FOUND THAT MANY ON THE 2013 ENGINES ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAVE NOT YET CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND BASED UPON WHAT I HAVE READ IN COUNTLESS FORUMS, CHRYSLER'S NOT STANDING BY THE PRODUCT ANYWAY, SO I DECIDED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT INSTEAD, I'M NOT SURE IF FILING THIS COMPLAINT WILL CHANGE CHRYSLER'S VIEW OF THE DEFECTIVE ENGINES OR NOT BUT SOMETHING NEEDS TO HAPPEN, THUS FAR NO LIVES HAVE BEEN TAKEN HOWEVER IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ABOVE 50 MPH AND THE ENGINE LOOSES POWER OR SHUTS DOWN AS OUR VEHICLE DID IT COULD EASILY CAUSE LOSS OF LIFE. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY ISSUES NOT ONLY FOR THE PERSON DRIVING VEHICLES WITH THESE DEFECTIVE ENGINES BUT TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD WITH THEM.

  ON 12/7/16, A DESOLATE, STRAIGHT, COUNTRY ROAD, I STOPPED MY TRUCK TO INVESTIGATE DAMAGE FROM A DEER THAT HAD RUN INTO THE DRIVER'S FENDER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH. EVEN THOUGH I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK AFTER MY STOP (TO MAKE IT STATIONARY), THE RAM STARTED MOVING AS I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT ITS CABIN; AND THEN IT DROVE FOR ABOUT 300 FEET AT IDLE SPEED DOWN THE ROAD, WHERE IT STOPPED IN A SHALLOW DRAINAGE DITCH. MEANWHILE, THE RAM'S "SELF-DRIVING" MODE HAD CAUSED ME TO SLIP ON THE RUNNING BOARD AND TO FALL VERY HARD TO THE GROUND (A DISTANCE OF AT LEAST 22 INCHES). THE RESULTS: PAIN, HAND AND KNEE CUTS, EXTREME BRUISING AND SWELLING OF THE ENTIRE LEFT LEG, AND BRUISING AND SWELLING OF THE LOWER RIGHT LEG. THESE REQUIRED SOME MEDICAL ATTENTION.   THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE MY GAUGE CLUSTER INTERMITTENTLY REBOOTS ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD SAY THIS OCCURRENCE HAS HAPPENED OVER 20 TIMES DURING THE YEAR I HAVE OWNED MY TRUCK. I BOUGHT IT BACK IN OF SEPTEMBER 2013. IN ADDITION, I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY MAP LIGHTS FLICKER. NOT SURE IF IT'S AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I'VE BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN TO THE RAM DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE NO ERROR LOGS IN THE TRUCK'S COMPUTER SYSTEM.   Driving at 40MPH and 2013 Ram 1500 experienced total and complete loss of power steering with no warning. I was narrowly able to avoid getting into an accident and cannot drive the truck given the strength needed to turn the wheel. Cost from dealer is estimated to be around $4,500 after parts and labor / taxes and could take months since the part is on backorder. The dealer said there have been multiple issues like this and unfortunately there is not yet a recall other than one from a few years ago that looks very similar to what I experienced. I don't have any other transportation and will likely have to pay to get it fixed. Going to sell it and never buy Ram again.

The contact pulled into a parking lot, turned off the vehicle, and the steering wheel was released. After restarting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the left or the right. The steering symbol was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the rack and pinion had malfunctioned. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

  - Received a low voltage warning light on vehicle and a day later as I was driving the vehicle, the steering wheel seemed to be moving around on its on at times kind of locking up. As I was leaving a car wash exit, the power steering completely locked out and then eventually I was able to move steer the vehicle but the power assist was no longer in there. This was on 12/14/2023 - As I was driving home 12/14/2023, the vehicle eventually locked up on the steering wheel and and all the lights in the vehicle started to dim down and shutting down; radio, parking assist sensor, heat and a/c ,acceleration and then it came to a stop as I could keep driving the vehicle as there was no more power and the brakes seemed to not be working. Had to call a tow truck company to get home. Tow truck driver stated my vehicle could not be placed in neutral and the rear brakes were locked up. This was on the highway and could have been terrible to crash to a vehicle or medium and in rush hour. - The vehicle currently sits in my driveway, have not taken to dealership yet. The alternator was replaced, a battery sensor (negative) was replaced and now the vehicle turns on but the steering wheel column service light is on and it is semi locked - low voltage a day before, then steering column service light and then when driving home on 12/14/23 all the lights came on it.

  TAILGATE FALLS FOR NO REASON AND WHEN I TRY TO PUT IT BACK UP IT WON'T LATCH. IT TAKES MULTIPLE TRIES TO GET IT TO DO SO. I HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK IT ONCE I DO GET IT LATCHED. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY. IT'S RATHER DANGEROUS NOT ONLY FOR THE RISK OF CARGO FALLING OUT BUT FOR ME HAVING TO STOP ALONG THE INTERSTATE AND FIGHT WITH IT WHILE CARS ARE FLYING BY ME AT 65+MPH. IT'S HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT I WILL PUT THE MOST RECENT DATE BELOW. DEALER SAYS IT'S BECAUSE OF SOME 'MODULE' AND I HAVE TO PAY $267 TO HAVE IT FIXED. SEEMS LIKE IT'S A DEFECT AND DODGE SHOULD BE COVERING THE COST, THE TRUCK IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD FOR GOD'S SAKE.

  TRUCK STARTED TAPPING 4-5 WEEKS AGO. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK... TO GET IT FIXED AT INSPECTION. 5 DAYS AGO, TRUCK STARTED SKIPPING AND THE CIL CAME ON. ERROR CODE PO302. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED AS CAM LOBE FAILURE. THE TRUCK HAS 113,500 MILES ON IT ALL HIGHWAY. SYNTHETIC OIL; PLUS FUEL. BASED ON MY RESEARCH... THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE PREVALENT. CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THIS REPAIR. $3500 REPAIR COST FOR A TRUCK LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. UNFAIR TO SAY THE LEAST.

  The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the brake, ABS, and traction control warning lights illuminated and the message to "Service ABS" was displayed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the cruise control activated, the cruise control system failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS control module had internal electronic failures and produced DTC: C2200-49. The contact was informed that the ABS control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

OVER THE NEXT THREE MONTHS IT SLOWLY DEVELOPED AN SIGNIFICANT, ONE SECOND PLUS, HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP. THE SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] AT JOHNSON DODGE TEST DROVE AND AGREED THERE WAS A HESITATION BUT COULDN'T/CAN'T FIX/ADJUST IT DO TO EVERYTHING BEING CONTROLLED BY COMPUTER MODULES. HE SAID, "UNTIL THEY, (RAM ENGINEERS), RELEASE A SOFTWARE FIX/UPDATE OR TECH BULLETIN, THERE WAS NOTHING HE/THEY COULD DO." THIS HESITATION IS SO SEVERE IT REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO ANTICIPATE THE DELAY AND THAN PRE-PRESS THE ACCELERATOR WHEN CROSSING A STREET IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR OTHER SITUATION REQUIRING TIMELY ACCELERATOR RESPONSE.   The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the ABS warning light was illuminated, and the cruise control feature disengaged. Additionally, the contact stated while starting the vehicle, the power steering warning light was illuminated, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact stated that the failure occurred on two occasions. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle on each occasion, and the warning light was no longer illuminated. Additionally, the steering wheel became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module (PSCM) had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Hard to change lanes or when turning off freeway and when tried to turn around a corner vehicle behind me didn't know what I was doing as too hard to turn the wheel. He almost slammed into me.   MY VEHICLE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION, WHERE THE FRONT END HAS LOWERED AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WILL NOT RESPOND. I HAVE LOOKED ON SOME WEBSITES AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND FOR SOME, A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE NOT FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, AND WONDERING WHY. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN 2019 AND DID NOT REALIZE THERE WAS AN ISSUE THAT DOES NOT HAVE REMEDY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS SUCH.   FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED DASHBOARD AND RADIO LIGHTS WERE GLITCHING ON AND OFF THEN WARNING INDICATOR STATED MY REAR BRAKES LIGHTS WERE OUT THEN MY TURN SIGNALS,THEN IT STATED MY HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT BUT NONE OF THESE LIGHTS OR SIGNALS WERE OUT.   Steering power assist failed, luckily in a parking lot. Steering warning light illuminated and there was no power assist. Obviously loss of power assist is a real danger to me and any vehicle or pedistrian nearby. Drove another 5 miles, with great steering difficulty, to an appointment. Shut vehicle off 45 minutes. When I restarted, steering warning light was off and steering worked normally. Have not been able to duplicate the problem. Current mileage is 64000

  I took my truck in for inspection to sell it. My auto technician said that my frame by the passenger side, rear was completely rusted and cracked and unsafe to drive. I called Dodge on 11/14/24 and they opened a case # [XXX]. They told me to take it to the dealership. I took it to 5 Corners in Cedarburg, WI and had them do an inspection where they also took photos and said that the truck was unsafe. They bounced back to Dodge and now Dodge bounced it back to the dealership. No one will respond and it has been 1 months with an unsafe vehicle. There were no indications of problems and had I not taken it in, what might’ve happened? I have an unsafe vehicle.   While driving the Electronic Power Steering Rack stopped working. I pulled over and inspected to see if there was any damage to it. Everything looked good, but the power steering was still not working. I turned vehicle on and off a couple times until the Electronic Power steering Rack started working again. This put me and other drivers in danger as I could not steer my vehicle freely without using excessive force to turn the wheel and pull over. Since then the power steering rack works sometimes and sometimes I have to turn my truck on for at least 20 to 30 minutes until the truck heats up and then turn and turn it off a couple of times until the electrical power steering rack starts working. I do not drive it anymore as I am scared that if I am on the highway it might turn off again and I will loose control of the vehicle. I have not taken it to get checked as I am scared to drive it. The Power steering warning light came on after the vehicle lost power steering during driving.
