  While driving my 2013 Kia Sportage at 70 mph from Wisconsin to Duluth MN, I heard a tapping coming from the engine. Very quickly, the noise escalated to a very loud knocking. At this time, I thought my engine was going to blow up while driving. I was very frightened by this experience. Then car shut off while I was driving putting myself and those behind me at rick of an accident, however I was able to pull over. I was alone. I had no idea what was happening and I was 75 miles from home. There was no WARNING indicator light to come on in my dashboard to inform me that there was an engine problem. After I steered my vehicle on the side of the road, I was able to start the car to get to the nearest gas station for help. There was no one available to help me. So I decided to drive my vehicle slowly home. That is when my engine blew-up and I could no longer drive the vehicle. I contacted KIA for Road Side assistance and they informed me the the tow would cost me near $560.00. Then I called my mechanic friend for a tow. After he arrived and looked at the engine, he looked over and under the engine and told me that a rod blew through the engine block. (Pictures available) My 2013 Kia Sportage was brought to KIA of Duluth the following day for repair. Kia of Duluth inspected the vehicle and informed me that a Knock Sensor Detection recall was not preformed on my vehicle and that my 100,000 mile Warranty had expired as I had 105,812 upon arrival. On October 27, 2021 I submitted a Claim to Kia Engine Settlement and have received no satisfaction. Further I was informed that I would be eligible for Towing and Rental Cost by Kia Consumer Affairs and KIA Engine and most resent been denied that as well. My 2013 Kia Sportage was valued at 10, 900 dollars when this happened on September 14th, 2021. I received no reimbursement. I have paid $2192.00 in towing and rental cost. This resulted in me purchasing a new vehicle.

  THE ENGINE HAS A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND. I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DILIGENT ABOUT GETTING MY REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND SERVICES FOR AND HAVE SERVICE RECORDS FOR IT SO THOUGHT THIS WAS ODD. I TOOK IT TO THE KIA DEALER AND WAS ADVISED IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AND WOULD COST ABOUT $7200, A LOT MORE THAN WHAT THE VEHICLE IS WORTH. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISOR CHECKED THE VIN ON MY KIA BECAUSE HE SAID KIA SPORTAGES HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT FOUND OUT MY KIA WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND MANY KIA SPORTAGE OWNERS ARE FACING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME ENGINE THAT KIA RECALLED ON SOME KIA SPORTAGES, BUT NOT ON OTHERS. KIA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL KIA SPORTAGES THAT WERE SOLD DEFECTIVE NOT JUST SOME OF THEM.

  The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormally loud knocking sound. The contact stated that the vehicle previously had the brakes, four tires, fuel injectors, and spark plugs replaced; however, the failure recurred. Additionally, the vehicle experienced rough driving. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics, who diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

  Car engine started making a loud knocking / tapping noise, car shut off while driving down the road at 40 mph, I had to replace the battery, car started back up but is still knocking / tapping. No warning lights came up, I have 112,000 miles on it, I keep the maintenance up on it, I don't run it hard, I take car of it because I Love My car, I have NEVER had any issues before this. I did not receive a recall on it, but, there is two recalls listed on for it, this issue is one of the two recalls.

OTHER DRIVERS BEGAN TO CALL 911 AND REPORTED MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. AT THIS TIME I HEARD A LOAD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE BLEW .I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE . POLICE , FIRE AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ALL SHOWED UP . MY KIA AND THE YEAR ARE AMONG THE RECALL ENGINE BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT , SO KIA CONSUMER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME . I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH ON HERE AND HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER KIA ENGINES ON HERE THE SAME AS MINE THAT HAVE DONE THE SAME EXACT THING BUT NOT BEEN IN THE RECALL .   ON 4/18/2019 I WAS DRIVING ON A NARROW 2-LANE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A KIA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $8,800. THE ENGINE HAD 83,000 MILES ON IT.

  VEHICLE HAS 111,000 MILES AND MAIN ENGINE BEARING GOING OUT. CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT STARTED MAKING A BAD SOUND. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT THE KIA HAS HAD A MASSIVE RECALL ON BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VEHICLE BASED ON THE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. I HAVE CONTACTED KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND AFTER MORE THAN A WEEK HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO ACTION THAT THEY WILL TAKE. I WAS TOLD THAT AT MY EXPENSE THE DEALER COULD TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE AND SEE IF METAL WAS BLOCKING OIL PORTS AND THEY MIGHT REVISIT (NOT KNOWING IF THEY WOULD TAKE ANY ACTION THEN ?) THIS CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED CORRECTLY AND IS IN GOOD SHAPE OTHER THAT A DEFECTIVE KIA ENGINE. ON TOP OF ALL THIS, IF I WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE THERE ARE NONE AVAILABLE. DEALERSHIP SAID COULD GET A $5400 USED ENGINE WITH MORE MILES THAN MINE - THEN STILL POSSIBLY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. KIA WAS FORCED INTO THE RECALL THEY DID INITIATE AND ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM BAD PLAYERS ESPECIALLY ON SUCH A MAJOR PURCHASE AS A VEHICLE. STUCK WITH AN UNOPERABLE AND UNREPAIRBLE VEHICLE.

  On December 13, 2023, at 7:30am I noticed that the check engine light was on in my vehicle. I recently received an Important Safety Recall letter notice on November 14, 2023, regarding a defect with the safety of kia motor vehicles that were manufactured between 2011-2013, in which the defect can result in an engine compartment fire. I currently have a 2013 Kia Sportage so once I saw the check engine light, I was concerned due to the notice I received. I decided to take my vehicle to my nearest kia dealership per the WARNING that states that if you experience illumination of Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) take the vehicle to the nearest dealership as soon as possible. I took my vehicle to the 7050 Ogden Ave Berwyn, IL 60402 location. I informed Rep that my check engine light was turned on. The Rep then stated that diagnostic testing can be done on the vehicle, but it would be $175.00. I stated to the Rep “NO”, I then informed rep that I have a Recall on my vehicle regarding the engine and I have a warranty due to the defect on the engine. I was then informed that I do have a warranty and that I would be good to go in which the car was covered. After it was confirmed that there was a Safety Recall and Warranty along with a statement from the Rep confirming that everything would be taken care of. I provided rep the keys to my vehicle around 8:00am and was informed that the mechanic would have to keep my car overnight to sufficiently diagnose the problem. I later talked to the service manager that stated the previous rep was out and it would cost $655 for the vehicle to be fixed. I informed him that I have a warranty that should cover the cost. I was later informed that the part is not covered under the warranty. I informed him that I do not want the service and he then stated that I would have to pay for the diagnostic testing for the car in the amount of $155.00. I was then told I would have to wait another day until the worker came in. I had to pay $100

  TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SPORTAGE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS THEN TOWED TO BOB MOORE KIA NORTHWEST (7340 NORTHWEST EXPY, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 73132, (405) 720-3800). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 13445594. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 138,000.

  SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON I-80 WITH 3 FRIENDS AND 2 DOGS WHEN THE ENGINE MADE LOUD POPPING NOISES AND QUIT, LUCKILY FOR ALL SHE WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, IF NOT SHE WOULD HAVE PROBABLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC WHO INFORMED US THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND SUGGESTED I CALL KIA AND CHECK FOR RECALLS, I DID AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO ENGINE RELATED RECALLS FOR THAT VIN, OUR MECHANIC THEN CONTACTED THE KIA DEALER HE WORKS WITH TO ORDER A NEW ENGINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A WAITING LIST AND WOULD ADD OUR NAME, WE ARE STILL WAITING AND NOW REALIZE THAT THE SHORTAGE IS DUE TO KIA'S RECALL "SC147" WHICH FOR SOME REASON INCLUDES ALL BUT THIS VIN. SAME ENGINE, SAME CAR, SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT ON THE RECALL. OUR MECHANIC HAS ALL THE RECORDS OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES THAT SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED ANY ENGINE PROBLEMS.

  My engine failed due to the knock sensor recall a known issue on my 2013 Kia Sportage the recall is supposed to provide a lifetime warranty but I was denied coverage because the failure happened before I was able to perform the update as I was a new owner to the car and was unaware of the recall at the time I have been going back and forth with the kia dealership for almost 8 months now 4 of those the car was at the dealership because they said I had to pay a $170 the fee for them to inspect the car to see if kia would repair it or not it which I was told I would get a full report when I finally was able to pick my car up I was told the claim was denied "due to recall not being performed" and that's literally all the paper said no report no details nothing I do t understand why I had to pay $170 for something they could have just told me because they knew the recall hadn't been completed at the time of entry and why did it take 4months of my car being there just to tell me that just for them to tell me that furthermore the recall applies to the car not just the original owner and covers all known defects and considering the engine failure was because of the defect and not normal wear and tear I'm requesting that KIA replace the engine in my vehicle in a timely manner as this failure was of no fault of my own but something that came directly from the manufacturer at time of purchase and had there vehicle not had a recall that effects the engine and the notification of a possible problem with the engine then my vehicle would not require a engine at this time.

  MY WIFE AND SEVEN YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING DOWN A 2 LANE INTERSTATE GOING 65MPH IN HER 2013 KIA SPORTAGE 130,000 MILES BEFORE THE ENGINE SIEZED UP ON HER AVOIDING A COLLECTION WITH A SEMI. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAD ME TAKE THE VECHICAL TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A GOOD WILL CHECK SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRENTY. DEALERSHIP CAME BACK AND TOLD ME I HAD PROPER MAINENTANCE RECORDS AND THERE WAS NO SLUDGE BUILD UP IN THE HEADS. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDNT FIND ANY FAULT OF MY OWN FOR THE ENGINE SEIZING UP. THEY THEN TOLD ME THE DISTRICT MANAGER DENIED THE GOOD WILL BASED ON NO OTHER VECHICALS NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO MANY 2013 KIA SPORTAGES WITH FWD. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. KIA NEEDS TO FIX THEIR MISTAKES! NOT ONLY FOR THE VECHICAL FAILING BUT RISKING THE LIFE OF MY WIFE AND SON.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE OIL WAS DRAINED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT METAL SHAVING WAS FOUND IN THE OIL AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.

  I WAS MAKING A SLIGHT TURN WHILE ACCELERATING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE JUST LOST POWER. I FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PULL OVER IN A SAFE SPOT. THE CAR WOULDNT STSRT AGAIN AND HAD TO BE TOWED. MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TOOK A LOOK A STATED THE ENGINE SEIZED. IT HAS NOW BEEN TOWED TO KIA DEALERSHIP NEAR BY. HOPEFULLY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR EITHER THE LONG BLOCK, SHORT BLOCK, OR RODS WILL COVER THE REPAIRS.

  MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND WENT AROUND A SEMI AND ALL OFTHE SUDDEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND SHE ALMOST GOT HIT BY THESEMI SHE HAD JUST PASSED. NEXT DAY TOWED IT TO KIA AND THE SAID THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP BUT THATTHE ENGINEWAS NOT WARRENTY BECAUSE IT HAD NOT THROWN A KNOCK SENSEOR CODE. WE HAVE MAINAINED THIS VEHICLE AND GOTTEN THE UPDATE FOR THE KNOCK SENSOR AND WERE ABOUT TO GIVE IT TO OUR SON AND GET OURSELVES ANOTHER KIA. DONT THINK THATS GOING TO HAPPEN NOW THATI KNOW KIA DOES NOT STAND BEHINDE THEIR PRODUCT OR CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS.

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF UP TO 100,000 MILES REGARDING LOOSE PARTICLES IN THE ENGINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT THAT COULD CAUSE A COMPLETE FAILURE.   AROUND THANKSGIVING I NOTICED A KNOCKING/ RATTLING/ CLANKING SOUND UNDER MY HOOD IN THE ENGINE AREA, WHICH OCCASIONALLY INCREASED/DECREASED WHEN THE RPMS MOVED. DUE TO COVID AND NOT TRAVELING I DIDNT DRIVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS. I WENT TO THE STORE ON 11/30 AND THE SOUND WAS LOUDER AND MORE STARTLING. I HAD MY HUSBAND CHECK IT WHEN HE GOT HOME. WE NOTICED RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE BUT MY VIN NEVER REGISTERED. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN, MY HUSBAND ASKED ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP ASAP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I MADE THE APPOINTMENT FOR 12/1. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY TO GET TO MY APPOINTMENT THE SOUND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE - THEN ALL LIGHTS WENT ON IN THE DASH AND THE GAS STOPPED WORKING. IT WAS LIKE MY VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS. IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. I WAITED OVER AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK; ON THE SHOULDER OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, DURING RUSH HOUR. IT WAS DROPPED AT THE DEALER AND WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING ON A REPORT AS TO WHATS WRONG. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND MY DAD AND BROTHER CAME TO TOW IT TO MY DADS TOWN MECHANIC HE SAID THE BARRINGS WENT OUT ON THE CRANK SHAFT. I WAS IN THE INTERSTATE. I FOUND OUT THERE IS A RECALL #17V-224 (METAL DEBRIS MAY HAVE BEEN GENERATED FROM FACTORY MACHINING OPERATIONS AS PART OF THE MANUFACTURING OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT WHICH MAY NOT HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE CRANKSHAFT'S OIL PASSAGES DURING THE CLEANING PROCESS. IN ADDITION, THE MACHINING PROCESSES OF THE CRANKPINS CAUSED AN UNEVEN SURFACE ROUGHNESS. AS A RESULT, THE METAL DEBRIS AND UNEVEN SURFACE ROUGHNESS CAN RESTRICT OIL FLOW TO THE BEARINGS, THEREBY INCREASING BEARING TEMPERATURES CAUSING PREMATURE BEARING WEAR. A WORN CONNECTING ROD BEARING WILL PRODUCE A CYCLIC KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND MAY ALSO RESULT IN THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP AND/OR OIL PRESSURE LAMP IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IF THE WARNINGS ARE IGNORED AND THE VEHICLE IS CONTINUED THE CRANK SHAFT GOING OUT AND IT COULD START A FIRE.) THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR. I KNOW THE VIN # AND THE RECALL NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH. I DON'T UNDERSTAND FROM WHAT I READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL BUT NOT FOR MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS 2011 TO 2013 KIA SPORTAGE. MY ENGINE HASS TO BE REBUILT THE PARTS ALONE ARE $2800 THEN IT COST THE MECHANIC TO FIX MY CAR SO IT'S GOING TO COST A LITTLE OVER OR UNDER 5000$ I ONLY OWE 4000$. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE SEIZED. WORLD KIA OF JOLIET WAS THE SECOND SHOP, UPON HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL ON CARS SIMILAR TO MINE. OF COURSE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, MY CAR WAS NOT VIN SPECIFIC TO THE RECALLED CARS, I WAS DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE. MY CAR HAS ONLY 88,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. I DO FIND IT FISHY, THAT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE MAJORITY ARE FOR 2013 KIA SPORTAGE'S, HAS SIMILAR VIN NUMBERS, MEANING THEY WERE MADE AT THE SAME DISTRIBUTION CENTER.

  ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 8TH 2020, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE 2013 KIA SPORTAGE WITH A LITTLE OVER 66,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON HWY. 174 IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, GEORGIA THE CAR STARTED MAKING A SOUND AND THEN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. OIL WAS EVERYWHERE IN THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY, THIS WAS IN A STRAIGHT OF WAY AND NOT IN A CORNER AND NO ONE WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND HER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE ENGINE BLEW A ROD THROUGH THE BLOCK AND IT WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. KIA HAS RECALLED SIMILAR ENGINES BUT BECAUSE THIS WAS A DOHC MODEL ENGINE IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THESE ENGINES ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE RECALLED ENGINE. THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT SAFE AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. I SCANNED IN A TEXT FROM MY MECHANIC AND THE KIA MECHANIC WHO GAVE ME A PRICE FOR THE NEW ENGINE. THANK YOU

  KIA America has rejected my appeal for an Engine replacement through the Recall , I had the KSDS, Knock Sensor Installed by North Town KIA 3900 Sheridan Drive Amherst NY , May 7 2021. The warranty I received mentioned to keep oil and filter changed every 7500 miles with 5 w 20 oil . The oil was changed by Myself and I have receipts every 5k miles or less. I was turned down for what KIA tech line said Insufficient maintenance . As in they are calling me a liar . I bought 5w 20 full Synthetic oil and filters on 12 occasions from Walmart that Fit my 2013 KIA Motor The weight was recommended by KIA and the Filters rated at 10K miles . Have worked on My cars since I was [XXX] old have thousands of dollars in tools. I do what ever maintenance that is still possible to do on newer cars . Brakes , Filters Fluid changes tire rotations Ect . If KIA would have mentioned in the Warrenty you need to take Videos I would have . Why are not receipts enough? Also the way the oil looks rite now ?? Clean on the dipstick. Have talked to 3 different car service technicians. And they said the same thing. If that motor was not maintained the oil would not look that good. I asked the dealer for the video that the technician does when they told me what I already knew. I paid 230 dollars for the diagnostic, They sent the video to KIA tech line. KIA told me I have to get a subpoena . To get a copy.. Does that tell you they may be hiding something?? So I have brought this to the attention of 3 different KIA dealers. They said hands are tied to to KIA tech line . My 2013 KIA Sportage looks as good if not better then some cars 3 years old .Everything works except The 2.4 liter motor with bad rod bearings. The car died while my Wife was driving it while at a stop light at a busy intersection. No light on dash no warning. What if it quit when she was at a high speed. No power steering, no power brakes??That is dangerous . This happened on September 4 2025, towed straight to the KIA Dealer . IT WAS 10:00 PM WHICH MAKES THIS HIGHWAY MUCH MORE DANGEROUS AND WAS GOING AT HIGH SPEEDS. WAS BARELY ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE (THANKFULLY I WAS ON THE RIGHT LANE). I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY KIA DEALER AND AFTER CHECKING THE VEHICLE THEY INFORMED BE THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS AN ENGINE RECALL FOR 2013 KIA SPORTAGE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, THEY CLAIMED THAT MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I AM NOW WAITING TO SEE IF THE WARRANTY COVERS THE DAMAGE. THEY WANT TO INSPECT THE ENGINE FIRST. TAKING THE ENGINE DOWN ALONE COSTS $1,000 IF THE WARRANTY REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIRS. MY QUESTION IS: WHY ISN'T KIA REPAIRING ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM?? WHY ISN'T MY VIN PAR OF THE RECALL?? WE COULD HAVE LOST OUR LIVES THAT DAY, INCLUDING MY 3 MONTH OLD BABY. AFTER A LOT OF ONLINE RESEARCH I KEEP RUNNING INTO OTHER PEOPLE'S STATEMENTS WHO HAD ECACTLY THE SAME SITUATION I HAD, WITH THE EXACTLY THE SAME ENGINE ON MY CAR, 2013 KIA SPORTAGE WITH A 2.4 L. ENGINE. SINCE THE KIA DEALERSHIP DID NOT WANT TO CONTINUE TRYING TO FIND AN ENGINE FOR ME, I TOWED IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE BOTTOM PAN, A CRACKED CRANKSHAFT AND THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS ARE NOTICEABLY SHAVED OFF AND SCRAPED. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAVE BEEN NOTICED IN THE OTHER KIAS WITH MY SAME ENGINE BUT THAT WERE ON THE RECALL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MY VIN IS NOT ONE OF THOSE.

AFTER THAT, SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE KIA WAS TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP AND CHECKED BY MECHANICS, WHO SAID THAT THE ROD BEARING WENT BAD AND IT SEIZED THE ENGINE. THE STARTER WAS ALSO FRIED IN THE PROCESS. KIA AGREED TO REPLACE THE PARTS BUT WOULD NOT AGREE TO PAY THE APPROXIMATELY $2500 LABOR COST. THE VEHICLE STILL SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIR. IT'S BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS NOW. I PLAN TO PURSUE HAVING KIA PAY FOR THE LABOR AS WELL. I NOW OWE $7000 ON A CAR THAT WILL NOT RUN.

  I have a 2013 Kia Sportage with 85,000 miles on it. I had an email back in 2018 that said that there was a recall for engine issues. I immediately called and they said that based on my VIN number, it did not affect my car. On 11/6/2022, My engine died while I was coming back from Tampa, FL to Jacksonville, FL in Ocala with no warning whatsoever. I had it towed to a mechanic who knew exactly what was wrong. He had worked on several Kia's with the same engine problem and told me to call KIA regarding the warranty. I called Kia Resolution Center as well as Kia Corporate Headquarters and they all stated that there was NOT a safety issue with my engine. They said they sent out a Product Update for an extended warranty, which I do not recall getting back in 2021, or I would have obviously called to get it. Because I did not respond to the Product Update, that I never received, they will NOT cover the replacement engine or even help with it. I had to sell my car as is with no engine to put a down payment on a car at a dealership. My car was paid for with very low mileage and very well maintained with regular oil changes, etc. There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this same issue, but Kia does not want to take responsibility for their obvious shotty engines. I will NEVER buy another Kia or recommend one.
