Park outside — urgent recall

NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe (fire risk — park away from structures). Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULECampaign 23V651000 · 22/09/2023Park outside

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

Risk: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.

  • POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFTCampaign 13V355000 · 12/08/2013

Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2013 front wheel drive Santa Fe Sport vehicles manufactured July 13, 2012, through March 12, 2013; and equipped with 2.4 liter engines. Due to a manufacturing issue, the right front axle shaft may fracture.

Risk: A fractured front axle may result in a loss of power to the wheels. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, it may roll away. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front axle shaft assembly, free of charge. The recall began on September 19, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai Custom Care Center at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall number is 112.

  • LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:HOOD:LATCHCampaign 17V358000 · 05/06/2017

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

Risk: If the hood is not securely closed or the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.

  • 12/31/2023· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

While driving on the interstate the vehicle suddenly shuddered and immediately died, dash lights were still on but all power was cut off. Cars around me were swerving to avoid hitting me from behind as well as avoiding cars in the inside lane. Thankfully able to coast to the narrow edge of the road without a grave incident. Restarted the car with a terrible metallic screetching noise and limp along the side of the interstate to the nearest off ramp.

ON 11/02/2020 MY HYUNDAI SANTAFE SPORT BROKE DOWN. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AT UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI THAT THE 4TH CYLINDER WAS MISSFIRING AND THAT GASOLINE WAS SPRAYING INTERNALLY. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF MY CAR AND HAVE CHANGED OIL REGULARLY AND HAVE NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE WITH THE CAR. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I GOUND THAT HYUNDAI HAD TWO RECALLS ( 164 AND 194) I WAS TOLD BY THE REP AT UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI THAT MY CAR WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. HOWEVER HYUNDAI ENDED UP GOING BACK ON THEIR WORD AND SAID MY EGINE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THEY WOULDN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING.

CAR WOULDN'T START. EVERYTHING WENT DEAD. HAD CAR TOWED FROM NY CITY TO DEALER IN NJ. THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THIS OCCURRED ON SEPT 27, 2015. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON DEC. 27, 2015. SEVERAL PEOPLE TRIED TO JUMP START IT TO NO AVAIL. TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND WAS GOING TO TOW IT FROM NY STATE TO NJ DEALER. TRIED TO JUMP IT AGAIN AND IT TOOK A JUMP. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC ON DEC 28, 2015 AND THEY FOUND BATTERY WAS GOOD AND CHECKED ELECTRICAL AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND I LOSE POWER AND HAVE NO BRAKES OR STEERING OR STOP LIGHTS AND I COULD BE KILLED OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD BE INJURED. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS IN A PARKING SPACE ON A CITY STREET OR PARKING LOT IN A MALL. CAUSE UNKNOWN. I HAVE NO RECORDS OF THE TOW FROM NY CITY BUT IT WAS TOWED BY HYUNDAI SO THEY HAVE A RECORD. *JS

The paint is peeling off, started a couple of years ago, but its getting worse and worse. I jsut read about this recall that was issued. Needed to know what can be done. The front is peeled, so i added a hood front end bra, and have peeling spots all around. I try to wash only with soft water so it will not peel as much. I added a picture of the front with the bra, but if needed i will send one without. This picture was sent to my insurance. "Hyundai Paint Peeling Recall Explained The Hyundai Paint Peeling Recall was issued in 2016 due to a defect in the exterior paint finish of certain Hyundai models. This defect caused the paint to peel or bubble on the affected vehicles, leaving them with an unsightly appearance. Affected models and years include the Santa Fe Sport (2013-2016), Sonata (2015-2016), Tucson (2011-2016), Elantra GT (2013-2016), and Azera (2012-2016)."

This is my daughter car and she is getting no where with Hyundai. The middle of November I was driving her car from Raleigh nc , we stopped to get gas , then I got to my house and then she drive to her house. After 20 minutes later she called and her car had stopped on the side of the road. She waited for triple a but no luck so she had to leave on the side of the road. The next day car was towed to garage. They said motor was gone. No warning no nothing. He told us about a recall 953?? Or something so we towed to Hyundai. They said she didn’t have a recall so they will not pay for her car to be fixed. We feel like Hyundai should stay behide this engine. My daughter is a hard working nurse and purchases this car used snd still owes 5,000 and they said they would give her 500.00 for the car. The car was driving great and no lights ever came on the dash. Please help me to get in touch with the right people bc I know this all has to do with all the engine problems all Hyundai’s are having. She did say right before it stopped running some lights came on the dash then it just died. She thought it was just a battery so she tried to get triple about with a battery but they were behide that night and never showed. The oil had been changed about 3,000 miles when this happened. Please help us get her car fixed. Thank you

WE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THE SANTA FE SPORTS NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V-355. WE CALLED OUR SERVICE OFFICE (UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI ORLANDO). THEY WERE NOT VERY HELPFUL. 1) THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE 2) WHEN THE PART COMES IN IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST 4 HOURS TO REPLACE AND WE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH HEM. 3) WE LIVE ABOUT 15 MILES FROM THE NEAREST HYUNDAI OFFICE. 4) THEY REFUSED TO OFFER A LOANEE CAR. THEY SAID WE COULD RENT A CAR FROM ENTERPRISE. IF A CAR IS RECALLED WE WOULD EXPECT THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE AND ALSO WE WOULD NOT EXPECT TO BE OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. *TR

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION, 600 MILES INTO THE DRIVE AND 200 MILES FROM HOME, I HEAR A LOUD BANG. I LOOK UP TO FIND THAT THE SUNROOF OF MY CAR HAS EXPLODED. NOTHING HIT THE CAR AND NO DEBRIS AT THE INSTANT OF THE EXPLOSION FELL INTO THE CAR. IT SEEMED TO HAVE EXPLODED OUTWARD BUT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF WHAT CAUSED THE EXPLOSION. SMALL SHARDS OF GLASS FROM AROUND THE EDGE OF THE GAPING HOLE BEGAN TO FALL INTO THE CAR, THOUGH THE MAJORITY OF THE GLASS HAD FLOWN OUT BECAUSE I WAS GOING 65MPH. I PULLED OVER, PATCHED THE SUNROOF WITH DUCT TAPE AND TRASH BAGS AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME. I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH, I TURNED UP THAT HYUNDAI IS RECALLING OTHER CARS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS A PANORAMIC SUNROOF, JUST LIKE THE VELOSTERS. NHTSA, PLEASE BROADEN YOUR INVESTIGATION OF HYUNDAIS' SUNROOFS TO INCLUDE SANTA FE SPORTS TOO!! *TR

  • 12/24/2022· ENGINE

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited FWD bought 6/1/22. We bought the car used at 89,000 miles and drove it to 100,000 miles. On 12/19/22 this incident occurred. On the freeway, at speed, I experienced a sudden engine failure/loss. No warning lights prior to this loss and the car had no previous mechanical issues. Acceleration was lost with no warning, no light or indication that something was (going) wrong. I was able to coast to a stop on the side of the road. Once safely off the road I inspected the vehicle for damage, found none and opened the hood. I found no oil on the dipstick, Oil changed 3000 miles before, no interior dash warning about low/no oil. Luckily this was not during rush hour traffic or bumper to bumper where it could have completely died on me in a traveling lane and been a hazard to other drivers. Waited 3 hours for a tow and it is currently sitting at the repair shop where they provided a confirmation that the engine is seized and will need to be completely replaced. Insurance Appraiser was out Friday (12/23) at the Repair shop to look at the vehicle. Repair cost is more than the car is worth and Hyundai Warranty/Recalls are not applicable to the 3.3L V6 Engines which is what our model car has.

  • 12/24/2021· STEERING

I own a Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 GLS, at about 78,000miles. There is currently a loud clicking noise that occurs when you turn the steering wheel, also steering wheel vibration when you apply the brakes. There is a play when you turn the steering, from my review and research, it is caused by a disintegrated rubble coupler in the steering motor. I called Hyundai customer support, and also when to the dealership, and I was told that it is not covered under warranty. This seems to be common problem with a number of Hyundai cars. I expect that Hyundai to announce a recall on this as its a safety issue, rather, they don't seem to care.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PINEHURST TOYOTA (10760 US 15 501 HWY, SOUTHERN PINES, NC 28387, (833)267-2310) AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER FOR HYUNDAI, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

  • 12/22/2022· STEERING

The car started to make a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel whether straight or turning. The wheel was shaking and there was some wiggle with steering. I was hours from home and did not feel safe driving the vehicle. Left it at a non-Hyundai repair shop. Was told the next day it was an issue with the plastic coupler in the steering column and Hyundai had a recall on it. Drove it home and brought it to my local dealer where we have all our repairs done. Was told there's no recall. After reading the exact same complaint by so many people on here and other online places I was shocked there was no recall for this issue. Others have stated Hyundai did recalls on some of their other vehicles for just this part/problem.

  • 12/22/2020· ENGINEFire

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY ON 12/21/20 AND MY ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZED, NO WARNING AND INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING. THE CAR CAME TO A VERY SUDDEN STOP, AND WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT WE WERE NOT KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT. MY CAR BEGAN SMOKING AND IT SMELLED AS IF IT WERE BURNING, WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IMMEDIATELY. I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN, AND I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO SWITCH IT TO NEUTRAL SO THAT I COULD GET OUT OF THE BUSY TRAFFIC. HAD TO CALL 911 AND PRAY THAT I WAS NOT HIT WHILE WAITING FOR THEM. I TRIED CONTINUOUSLY TO START MY CAR SO THAT I COULD MOVE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC, BUT ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZED, GEAR WOULD NOT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, AND WE WERE STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ONCE COPS CAME WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 40 MILES AWAY AND IT IS NOW SITTING USELESSLY IN THE DRIVEWAY.

WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A RATTLING SOUND. AS I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO JOIN THE TRAFFIC FLOW THE ENGINE NOISE STOPPED. IT CAME BACK A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE WE MADE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DESCENDING A HILL THE ENGINE QUIT. SINCE IT WAS DOWN HILL MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO A EXIT RAMP AND PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND DROVE TO THE DEALER. THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS METAL DEBRIS IN THE OIL AND THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT.

THIS VEHICLE HAS ISSUES WITH THE AC. IT ONLY BLOWS HOT AIR WHEN THE AC IS TURNED ON, EVEN WHEN IT'S ON THE LOWEST AND COLDEST SETTING. SINCE I PURCHASED VEHICLE DURING THE SUMMER OF 2013 THE AC HAS NOT BEEN WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE TAKING IT SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE IT CHECK BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO TROUBLE FOUND, BUT THAT WAS UNTIL EARLIER THIS YEAR THAT I WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND AN ISSUE BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE TO GET IT FIXED. NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN THE AC COMES ON BUT ONLY HOT AIR COMES OUT NO COLD AIR THIS HAPPEN WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.

  • 12/19/2023· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

I had lightly let off my gas pedal since I was driving down a slight decline/hill. Upon reaching the bottom of the decline, I pressed the gas pedal to maintain my speed, when I heard a loud noise from my engine; all the lights on the dash lit up; and my car lost all power. These items happened simultaneously and it was very sudden and unexpected as there were no prior warnings, indications, noises, or lights. The steering wheel locked up and I was unable to control the direction of my car. The brakes locked up and were unresponsive despite depressing them with both feet. I had no control of my car and I was completely at the mercy of my car and the road. The electrical system also failed. When my vehicle came to rest, nothing in the car worked. If a child, another vehicle, or animal was stopped in front of me or had pulled out in front of me, my car would have ran right into them. If I was on the hill and this happened, my car could have verved into the ditch and I could have been ejected. My car was towed to a local auto repair shop. The repair shop owner told me that Hyundai/Kai had issued a recall and he felt my engine failed for the same reason. I had my car towed to my Hyundai dealership where it sat for 4 months before they were able to assess it. I bought this car brand new in 2013 and maintained it for 9 years without a prior incident, problem or concern. It was a great vehicle that I was planning on giving to my daughter. My neighbor bought a Santa Fe because I raved about mine all the time. The vehicle is available for inspection, along with the auto shop repair owner.

2013 HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT 'STEERING BEGAN A "HESITATION", "LAG", "PLAY" WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN SLIGHTLY IN EITHER DIRECTION.' THE PROBLEM WILL INCREASED AS 3 DIFERENTE CERTIFIED MECHANICS ALREADY INFORMED ME. IT APPEARS ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARE ATTRIBUTABLE TO HYUNDAI'S ELECTION TO USE A CHEAP RUBBER COUPLER BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING LINKAGE.' 'THE REPLACEMENT PART IS $6.88. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS CHARGE $400-$500 TO REPLACE IT. NHTSA SHOULD HAVE LONG AGO ORDERED HYUNDAI TO EFFECTUATE A REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART WITH ONE MADE OF A MATERIAL THAT WILL NOT DEGRADE AS THIS PART DOES.' HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED SEVERAL EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR SOME MODELS, EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW ITS THE SAME PROBLEMS FOR ALL THE MODELS WITH THIS CHEAP RUBBER COUPLER. MOST OF THIS INFORMATION WAS FROM OTHER OWNER'S COMPLAINS, BUT THE NEW INFORMATION I HAVE WAS FROM THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER REPLACING MY ENGINE IN A RECALL (WHERE MY CAR STOPPED AND FIRE STARTED IN MY ENGINE), I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS RUBBER COUPLER. EVERYONE FROM HYUNDAI SERVICE DEP KNOWS THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE IN A RECALL, BUT THEY JUST WILL DO NOTHING TO GET IT TO NHTSA. THEY JUST STATED 'NHTSA IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN REQUEST FOR A RECALL.' TODAY I SPOKE AGAIN WITH THE HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER (AT RED HOAGLAND HYUNDAI WINTER HAVEN, FL ), BECAUSE AFTER CALLING HYUNDAI RECALL DEP AND BEING TOLD THAT 'IF THE SERVICE DEP DECIDES THAT THIS REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE IN A RECALL THEY COULD REQUEST FOR A EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE HYUNDAI RECALL DEP, OR NHTSA NEEDS TO PUT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM'. ITS CLEAR THAT EVERYONE KNOWS THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE IN A RECALL AND THAT IT IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION, BUT NO ONE DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ARE YOU GUYS WAITING FOR SOME ONE TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PUTTING A RECALL? [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).' *PM

The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at about 35 MPH, The steering wheel was seized on a winding road; the steering warning light had also appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle began to veer to the right direction as the contact forcefully steered the vehicle back to the left direction to avoid hitting a fence. The vehicle then spun into the opposite side of the road before hitting a curb. Once the vehicle hit the curb, the vehicle flipped three times before the vehicle came to a halt. All air bags deployed during the accident. A police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic but was later towed by her insurance for an investigation. All three passengers were taken to the hospital by a family member where they were treated for various injuries. One passenger sustained temporary ringing in both ears after the accident and the other passenger suffered temporary back pain. The contact sustained a head injury and a muscle strain to both their neck and back. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was unknown.

  • 12/13/2014· VISIBILITY/WIPER

I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND HAVE BEEN GETTING THE RUN AROUND ABOUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES NOT CLEAN THE WINDOW PROPERLY - THERE IS A PIE SHAPED AREA ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WIPER, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ONLY, THAT DOES NOT HIT THE WINDOW. AFTER MANY DISCUSSIONS WITH HYUNDAI AND GOING TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALS, THEY HAVE SAID THAT IT IS A DEFECT AND THAT ALL OR MOST HYUNDAI'S HAVE THIS DEFECT. I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE WHEN IT IS RAINING HARD, THE WIPER SPLASHES BACK ONTO THE WINDOW DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE WIPER IS NOT HITTING THE ENTIRE WINDOW PROPERLY. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SINCE MOST OF THE HYUNDAI'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A DEFECT THAT THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS ABOUT, BUT DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE CARE OF. *TR

  • 12/10/2024· ENGINE

All of a sudden, while driving the car it started to shake. When I slowed down to stop it was shaking more and idling so low I thought it was going to shut off. Went to the mechanic we use, mis firing on multiple cylinders. After replacing the plugs it was still doing the same thing. The oil was checked, only 2000 miles from my last oil change, I was nearly out of oil. I was told that these cars run a lot of oil, and run hot. Basically getting that low on oil the engine burned up. I never got a low oil light. Its only been 2000 miles into my recent oil change. The mechanic said this is a common problem with these cars, people shouldn't go more than 2000 without at least checking oil level and probably will need oil added. I was told not to drive it anymore, it could potentially over heat or stall out.

2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2.4 IS HAVING MAJOR STEERING ISSUES. AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45MPH THE SUV SWAYS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF. IF YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF WIND THE SUV WILL CHANGE LANES AND IF YOU SLIGHTLY CORRECT IT OVER CORRECTS. I HAVE CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND THE TIRES SHOW NO SIGNS A WEAR. ALSO THE FUEL TANK WILL ONLY FILL 3/4 FULL THEN YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND EVER SO SLOWLY PUT THE REMAINING 1.5-2 GALLONS IN. THE MPG IS HORRIBLE ONLY GETTING 20MPG AT BEST ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ECO MODE DROPS THE FUEL ECONOMY DOWN TO 18MPG WHEN ACTIVATED. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SHIP DUE TO WORK AND CANNOT GO WITHOUT A VEHICLE. *TR

ORIGINALLY I DROVE THIS VEHICLE WHICH IS MOSTLY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE ON THE WEEK OF 27OCT20. I NOTICED A FEW TIMES SOMETHING SMELT LIKE IT WAS BURNING, I COULDN'T DECIPHER IF IT WAS A BURNT OIL OR ELECTRICAL SMELL. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY KIDS IN THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF, I WAS ABLE TO THROW IT INTO NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE START BUTTON AND IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AS I WAS ROLLING DOWN THE STREET. IT DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT FRIDAY, 30OCT20 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO IT. IT WAS AT THE END OF THE DAY SO THEY HAD NO UPPER TECHNICIANS TO CHECK IT OUT BUT THEY DID PERFORM AN OIL AND CABIN AIR FILTER CHANGE AND ASKED THAT I BRING IT BACK. 3 WEEKS LATER ON 19NOV20 I WAS DRIVING MY KIDS AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK AND SHUT OFF AGAIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 28NOV20 AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE AND READING A BUNCH OF ARTICLES ABOUT HYUNDAI & KIA BEING FINED FOR NOT RESPONDING TO A RECALL WHICH STATED DEBRIS FROM MANUFACTURING COULD RESTRICT OIL FLOW TO CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE KNOCKING IN MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE FOUR-CYLINDER ENGINES TO STALL OR CATCH FIRE. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THIS MINUS THE FIRE THANK GOD! BUT, NOW THE IT MAKES SENSE ABOUT THE BURNING SMELL I WAS SMELLING. I BELIEVE ALL THESE ISSUES ARE TIED INTO CAMPAIGN#/RECALL 162. FOR THIS RECALL A SENSOR SHOULD'VE BEEN INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE BACK IN 2017 ACCORDING TO SERVICE RECORDS THAT SHOULD'VE INDICATED THIS ISSUE AND ALERTED ME. EVEN TO THE DAY IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE ENGINE WOULD RUN, KNOCK BUT NOT ONE SERVICE LIGHT WOULD LIGHT UP ON MY DASHBOARD. I'M STILL WAITING FOR A HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE TO COME AND INSPECT MY VEHICLE AS IT HAS NOT MOVED SINCE IT WAS DROPPED OFF WITH THE DEALER.

My wife’s 2013 Santa Fe 2.0 Sport AWD started consuming 1-2 quarts of oil a week a few months prior to the problem that inevitably ended in a very stressful and unsafe situation for her on her drive home. The engine with out warning on the dash or any other signs lost the number two cylinder compression and caused the car to have major acceleration issues. As well as raw fuel being dumped into the cylinder and entering into the exhaust manifold. As you can barely breath when standing behind the car or even driving behind it. Her car was taken to a Hyundai dealership after I had seen there was a recall on her motor for a failure of a Nok Sensor. The dealership technician diagnosed the issue and said that there was no compression in the second cylinder due to a valve in the head breaking off. We were told that the repairs would not be covered by a recall and that the cars engine would need to be replaced as the fact that the raw fuel being dumped into the engine destroyed that cylinder. Again no warnings or warning lights, car acceleration was extremely slow and the car shook while trying to get it home safely. I am concerned that in an area where the temperature outside is significantly higher than where we live, that raw fuel could ignite in the exhaust system, as well as cause a vehicle low on fuel to combust due to the vapor of the tank possibly igniting due to to the possible fire in the engine compartment and exhaust system.

DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR WEATHER AND DRY ROADS WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WESTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 4, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. FORTUNATELY, WAS ABLE TO COAST ACROSS TRAFFIC TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON BUT THE CAR DIDN'T START. EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WALKED TOWARDS THE FRONT TO SEE SMOKE, AT FIRST, THEN SAW FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. TRIED TO DIAL 911, BUT HAD WEAK CELL SIGNAL. APPARENTLY 911 WAS NOTIFIED. HIGHWAY PATROL ARRIVED, THE FLAMES WERE SPREADING AND GETTING LARGER. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES, WHICH REACHED ALMOST 10 FEET HIGH. THE FIRE FIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO CONTAIN THE FIRE BEFORE IT REACHED THE FUEL TANK, BUT THE VEHICLE AND ITS CONTENTS WERE TOTALLY BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS A SHELL OF METAL AND ASH WHEN IT WAS TOWED AWAY.
