  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULECampaign 23V651000 · 22/09/2023Park outside

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

Risk: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.

CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT MORNING I GOT UP, STARTED MY CAR AND NOW THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. DEALER SAYS I NEED A NEW CLOCKSPRING. MY CAR HAS 53000 MILES. NO ACCIDENTS, OIL CHANGES EVERY 3000 MILES. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN. ITS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI.

  • 11/19/2019· STEERING

OUR 2013 AZERA, WITH LESS THAN 29K MILES, STARTED WANDERING BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING. EVEN ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS AT SLOW SPEEDS NOT JUST ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. I STARTED NOTICING THAT I HAD PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. AT FIRST IT WAS ONLY MAYBE A HALF INCH BUT IF I TURNED THE WHEEL FAST ENOUGH BACK AND FORTH, IT MADE A THUMPING NOISE AND I COULD FEEL IT IN THE WHEEL. NOW THERE IS 6 INCHES TURN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND THE WHEEL AND COLUMN RATTLES AND THUDS ON EVERY IMPERFECTION IN ROAD SURFACE. THE FIRST INDICATION WAS NOTICED 4 DAYS AGO. TODAY I FEAR IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. EVEN TO DRIVE IN TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE PROBLEM I HAVE SEEMS TO BE SIMILAR TO THOSE ALREADY DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL AND WILL BE FIXED AT MY EXPENSE SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY YEAR/MODEL HYUNDAI. AS IT IS STILL UNDER 30K MILES, THIS IS HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST.

  • 11/16/2022· ENGINE

Engine started knocking about 3 to 4 months ago, Car keeps having random times when it won't starr. The lights came on dash nothingto the engine. The dealership has "checked" it a few times but can'tfind anything. The knocking is consistentif you drive it for more than a couple of miles. Car is available for inspection. Also my MPG has been increasingly getting worse. The gauge says 19 but I'm averaging about 12. I was advised by a mechanic (all work done on my car is at a dealership) that the Hyundai has issues with this model/year car. The Santa Fe and Sonata on the 2013 models have been recalled. It should be noted the Santa Fe and Azera have the same engine.

  • 11/15/2019· STEERING

THE STEERING COLUMN HAS THE SAME FAULTY COUPLER THAT HAS TO REPLACED ON ALL THE SONATA, ELECTRA'S AND KIA'S IN THE YEAR RANGES FROM 2009 TO 2017. THEY HAVE A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING COUPLER IN THE 2009-2017 SONATA AND ELECTRA CARS, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THE AZERA. AFTER TALKING WITH MANY DEALERSHIPS, THEY REPLACE THEM DAILY ON THE AZERA'S AS WELL, WHY WAS THIS COUPLER NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? IF THE COUPLER BREAKS WHILE DRIVING ALL STEERING IS LOST. JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF RESEARCH WILL SHOW YOU HOW MANY AZERA OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME REPAIR. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED AND IT MAKES A CRACKING NOISE, BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. THE NOISE INCREASES OVER TIME AND STARTS TO RATTLE ON BUMPS. THE PROBLEM CAN CAUSE DEATHS, IF NOT MADE AWARE OF TO THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES.

HOWEVER THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS ROOTS CAUSES UNTIL TODAY. • 11/13/2023· SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to slow the vehicle, the brakes made an abnormal squeaking sound. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed that the brake fluid reservoir was low. Upon refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the contact became aware that the brake fluid was draining abnormally fast. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that there was brake fluid leaking within the engine compartment. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); the VIN was included, but the remedy was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 94,000.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2013 HYUNDAI AZERA. MY WIFE AND I WAS GIVEN A CLASS ON OUR NEW VEHICLE. THE DAY OF OUR PURCHASE MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THE BACK BUMPER WAS EVERY DIRTY, WE THOUGHT. THE BACK BUMPER WAS COVERED WITH BLACK CARBON THAT CAME FROM THE EXHAUST THAT ALSO HAD CARBON AS WELL INSIDE AND AROUND THE OUTSIDE TIPS. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASE THE CAR. THEY ASK WHAT GRADE GAS DID WE PUT IN THE CAR? I EXPLAIN THAT WE WOULD NOT PUT FUEL IN THE CAR AND THAT THEY FILLED THE CAR WITH FUEL. AND EXPLAINED THAT WE HAD JUST LEFT THE DEALERSHIP A FEW HOURS AGO. SERVICE ASKED US TO PUT 87 OCTANE IN THE NEXT TIME WE FILL UP. I CALLED HYUNDAI COMPANY AND THEY SAID TO USE 87 OCTANE FUEL AS WELL. I UNDERSTAND PUMP GAS HAS ADDITIVES THAT ARE ADDED TO GAS. I'VE ONLY SEEN THIS WITH GAS VEHICLES THAT ARE RUNNING BAD OR WITH PROBLEMS AND DIESEL ENGINES POWERED VEHICLES. DO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAVE ANYTHING ON A HYUNDAI'S 2013 AZERA? *TR

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

  • 09/30/2022· ENGINE

I own at 2013 Hyundai Azera with a Lambda engine. The same engine that’s having all sorts of issues and being recalled for many reasons on Hyundai & Kia’s. It has only 79k miles on it. While driving down the highway at 75 mph the engine began to lose power and it quickly overheated. It was very terrifying as I had cars and a semi barreling behind me and my engine was seized up. I was able to throw my hazards on and make it to the shoulder safely. We towed it to my mechanic and he said the 4 rear bolts weren’t torqued/sealed properly and they were stripped and pulled right out of the block. He said this is a Manufacturer defect from when the bolt was installed in the factory. Another factor was Hyundai uses an Aluminum head and Alum block with steel bolts. The temp variant in Alum & steel is totally different so what happens is when they expand & contract at different temps like that they eventually pull out. Also, the threads in the block aren’t deep enough to begin with. I filed a claim with Hyundai and they denied my claim. My case manager Jasmine called and said: 1) “What are you expecting us to do about a car that’s old, it may only have 79k miles on it, but it’s OLD and engines break on old cars” 2) We are the 2nd owners so the 100k powertrain warranty dropped to 60k which sadly we are just over. **It was listed as a Certified Pre-Owned when we purchased it but after calling the dealership they claim it’s not a CPO otherwise we would still be covered under the 100k PT warranty. My mechanic called Hyundai to get a replacement engine and was told they discontinued that engine so when they get them in for that reason they just sell them a junkyard motor. So I have a perfectly great car, in otherwise pristine condition, and I’m unable to find a new motor for it.

  • 09/29/2019· STEERING

LOUD CLUNKING NOISE IN STEERING AND VIBRATION WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP AND SEEN STEERING COUPLING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESERACHING ONLINE I SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. MY SONATA HAD THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED. CLUNKING HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING OR STILL AND, SOUNDS LIKE METAL LOOSE IN THE COLUMN.

  • 09/28/2023· STEERING

Vehicle steering wheel started giving a lag feedback about 9 months to 1 year ago. About 5 weeks ago, started noticing loud metal noise when going over bump with steering wheel being rotated. Did some research to find similar issues on Azera and many Hyundai Sonata and other vehicles where steering wheel rubber coupler were worn out. Later also saw many complains here for this vehicle alone. I found no recall has been giving to the Azera, while it was giving to Sonata and others. Had to take it to a mechanic to replace it, which charged for 4 hours of labor, and <$10 of part. The rubber couple was indeed worn out.

THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALSO LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER PARKWAY HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 5920 MARKET ST A, WILMINGTON, NC 28405, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COUPLING WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

  • 09/21/2022· STEERING

Clunking noise and shaking in the steering wheel. Initial research points to steering coupler which has been recalled on various other Hyundai models but not the Azera ( this is a frequent occurrence with Hyundai recalls since not as many Azeras were sold) The mechanic I took it to would not replace just the couple and quoted replacing the entire rack and pinion.

THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.

STEERING WHEEL: THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIGOROUSLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING PAST 60. ALSO, BIG CLUNKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. FEELS LIKE STEERING WHEEL WILL FALL OFF. HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH MY SONATA. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SONATA ON THIS TO REPLACE THE STEERING COUPLING. AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON: SAME ISSUE AS MY SONATA, HOWEVER THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE AZERA. THIS IS CLEARLY ISSUES WITH LOT OF HYUNDAI'S. THIS NEEDS ANEW CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY/SPIRAL CABLE. IF THESE ARE SAME ISSUES ON A SONATA THEN THERE SHOULD OF BEEN A RECALL ON THE AZERA AS WELL. NOT LOT OF PEOPLE TALK TIME TO FILL THIS OUT AND REPORT THIS. I GUESS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT NEEDS TO OCCUR FOR HYUNDAI TO ACT.

  • 09/14/2021· STEERING

The steering wheel of my 2013 Hyundai Azera malfunctions. It makes a clicking noise when i move the steering wheel either clockwise or anti clockwise. The clicking noise dramatically increases when the road is not smooth. It started since almost a month back. After doing some research I found that this seems to be a common problem on many Hyundai models. There are many youtube videos showing this same problem that I am facing in my car. Here is one such link from youtube, and its description section pointed me about the recall of this part. https://youtu.be/lrkARm38wfc Hyundai had also issued a recall to change the steering coupler that seems to be faulty. The vehicles associated with the recall can be seen here https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/TXX7/MicroSiteTemplate/MicroSiteTemplateVINValidate/2689 It seems Hyundai is covering only Sonata and Elantra models. Since the same problem exists on Azera as well, I request you to please look into this matter as many folks had reported that the steering could fail to respond due to this issue. It is also a safety issue if the steering fails to respond while driving on the road on freeway. I can understand that Hyundai might have not received so much complains as the number of cars sold for Sonata and Elanatra models is significantly higher compared to Azera model. But if this is a safety issue and if the same parts are used in Azera model, I believe the recall should apply for Azera as well. The problem is easily reproducible. There is no warning lights or any messages or symptoms prior to failure.

I have no idea why it caught fire or why it was over heating. The oil has been getting changed more often than when i first bought the car, the engine oil light came on once a few months ago, and the oil was low, i wasn't sure why it was doing this, especially since i had just recently had an oil change prior to this happening. As with the car fire, my recent oil change was on august 28th, the coolant was full. So i have no idea what was going on. The two mechanics that i took my car to do work on, never mentioned anything out of the ordinary. We are homeless the address is our mailing address. I do not have a phone because it was lost in the fire, along with my whole wallet, my social and any recent work that has been done on the car. the number being provided is my son's phone. it is there to reach me if needed. i would prefer to correspond though email if possible also.

THE CAR MADE A RATTLING NOISE AND STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS I TRIED TO PULL IT OFF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ENGINE LOOKED AT. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE AND WROTE IT UP AS AN ENGINE PARTS MALFUNCTION. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST 14K TO REPLACE THE MOTOR AND THE HYUNDAI REFUSED TO COVER ANY OF THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MOTOR ONLY HAS ABOUT 115,546 MILES ON IT AND IT WAS SERVICED REGULARLY. NEVER OWNING A HYUNDAI DEATH TRAP AGAIN.

STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, LOTS OF PLAY IN THE WHEEL, PULLS THE CAR TO THE LEFT. I LATER LEARNED ITS A FAULTY STEERING COUPLER. HYUNDAI PROVIDES A 10YR/100K WARRANTY ON THIS PART FOR THE ELANTRA AND SONATA. ITS UNFAIR WHEN THE SAME FAULTY PARTS ARE USED ON THE AZERA BUT NOT COVERED AS IT IS ON THE OTHER MODELS.

Engine failed; started knocking , lights came on dash, and caused car to cease. Car is available for inspection, luckily was able to get on side of road without incident; towed to dealership and they advised that the Hyundai has issues and they have about 10 on the lot now awaiting replacement for there is a recall on this year of the Sonata and the Santa Fe - it should be noted the Santa Fe and Azera have the same engine. Contacted dealer after towed and they told us what the likely issue is without looking at it (although later confirmed) for they have so many with the same issue. There were no warning lights or anything, dashboard suddenly came on and vehicle died. Dealership (Jim Johnson, Bowling Green, KY) service woman, Megan, said this is quite normal and there was a lawsuit about this.

My wife was driving down the road when the car started smoking. When she pulled over she grabbed a bag and as she was getting out her flames were coming under her dash. Total loss

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ABOUT 11 A.M. ON SUNDAY, JUNE 19 (OVERCAST, SOME RAIN ON AND OFF, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, SO I WAS PROBABLY GOING ABOUT 30 OR 35 MPH) WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP, LIKE SOMEONE POPPING A PAPER LUNCH BAG. DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS SO A COUPLE MINS LATER I HEARD WIND. ALL WINDOWS WERE UP, SO I OPENED THE SHADE COVERING THE PANORAMIC MOON ROOF, AND THAT'S WHEN I SAW THE HUGE HOLE IN THE FRONT PIECE OF GLASS. THIS IS THE ONE THAT MOVES WHEN YOU OPEN IT. THERE WAS NOTHING INSIDE (LIKE A ROCK OR LUG NUT ETC) TO INDICATE SOMETHING HIT IT. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ROOF. I HAD TO PAY A $500 DEDUCTIBLE TO GET IT FIXED, SO IF THIS IS A GLASS DEFECT THEN I SHOULD GET MY MONEY BACK.

I was driving on a highway when my vehicle started to stall. My acceleration had dropped quickly and I couldn't speed up. I put on my hazard lights and was able to drive off the closest exit. Once I got off the exit, my car stalled completely. I had to get it towed to my daughter's house because I am originally from a different city and was out of town. I had a mechanic take a look and it and they stated that he wouldn't be able to fix it because the engine that I had was under a recall. I researched the information on my engine and determined that the GDI engine that I have is the same engine that is on the Hyundai Santa Fe, which is currently under recall.

I WAS DRIVING ALONG ON I-95 WHEN I HEARD A LOUD, EXPLOSIVE POPPING SOUND. IT FREAKED ME OUT AT FIRST AS IT SOUNDED LIKE I HAD BLOWN A TIRE, BUT THE CAR DIDN'T SHAKE, BUMP OR SWERVE. I HADN'T SEEN ANYTHING IN THE ROAD I COULD HAVE HIT, AND I WASN'T DRIVING BEHIND ANY CONSTRUCTION TYPE TRUCKS DROPPING PEBBLES OR SAND. THE CAR WAS DRIVING AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED, SO I CONTINUED TO THE NEAREST EXIT. AS SOON AS I WAS OFF THE HIGHWAY, I PULLED OVER, GOT OUT AND SAW RIGHT AWAY THAT THE PANEL OF MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF THAT MEETS THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED, BROKEN AND MISSING PIECES IN THE LEFT AND RIGHT CORNERS, BUT ONLY HAD MINOR CRACKS IN THE CENTER. I WAS THINKING THIS WAS A VERY STRANGE PATTERN OF BREAKAGE IF SOMETHING LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT THE GLASS. I CALLED HYUNDAI ABOUT FIXING THE GLASS AND THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T DO IT--THAT THEY HAVE ANOTHER COMPANY DO IT FOR THEM. THEY GAVE ME THEIR NUMBER, BUT WHEN I CALLED, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO IT EITHER. IT TOOK ME 4 OTHER CALLS TO FIND A PLACE THAT WOULD DO THE WORK. WHEN I SPOKE TO HYUNDAI AND EXPLAINED HOW I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO CAUSE THE PANEL TO BREAK, THEY MADE NO MENTION OF THE POSSIBILITY IT MAY HAVE EXPLODED. IT WASN'T UNTIL I GOT HOME THAT A FRIEND SAID SHE GOOGLED EXPLODING SUNROOFS AND FOUND ALL KINDS OF INFORMATION ABOUT IT, AS WELL AS CLASS ACTION SUITS. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THE NEW PANEL COSTS $215 AND APPROXIMATELY $80 TO INSTALL. I AM HAVING THE REPAIR DONE RIGHT AWAY AS I CAN'T DRIVE AROUND LIKE THAT. I LIVE IN FLORIDA WHERE IT RAINS WITHOUT NOTICE AND I WOULDN'T WANT TO DAMAGE THE SUNROOF MOTOR OR ANYTHING ELSE BY GETTING IT WET. FORTUNATELY THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED AND I HAVE NOT OPENED IT TO SEE IF THERE IS GLASS INSIDE EVERYWHERE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO CREATE FURTHER DANGER OR MESS.
