Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured April 19, 2013, through April 23, 2013. The steering gears may be missing an internal retaining clip. If the clip is missing, components inside the steering gear may become dislodged inside the gear assembly.

Risk: This could result in impaired steering, including the loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. The recall began on June 17, 2013. Ford's recall number is 13S06. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IN A COMMERCIAL ARE THE WHEEL STOPPED STEERING. I COULD NOT MOVE THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT AND GOT STUCK IN AN INTERSECTION. A POLICE OFFICER CAME AND SAT WITH ME WHILE WE WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS LOOKED AT WHEN THEY OPENED AFTER THE WEEKEND. THEY PUT IN A REQUEST TO FORD TO ALLOW THE PIECE TO BE REPLACED UNDER CURRENT RECALLS RELATED TO THE STEERING.APPARENTLY THE RACK AND PINION CAN JUST BREAK AFTER TWO YEARS OF DRIVING. SINCE THE BUMPER TO BUMPER COVERAGE WAS UP THEY SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER. A CAR SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO FALL APART AFTER 59,000 MILES IF IT IS KEPT IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. IF I HAD BEEN INJURED OR SOMEONE ELSE HAS BEEN, THIS WOULD BE A VERY DIFFERENT CONVERSATION. THE PIECES THEY NEED TO REPLACE AND INCLUDING THE LABOR ROUND UP TO $2,000. *JS

  • 12/30/2015· STEERING

I PARKED MY 2013 FORD FUSION WITH 52,000 MILES ON IT FOR 3 DAYS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I STARTED IT A MESSAGE SAYING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ON AND THERE ISN'T ANY POWER STEERING. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY WILL LOOK AT IT BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE TECH'S TIME, I THEN LOOKED ON THE WEB AND IT SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS FOR OVER 445K FORD CARS, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF IT BECAUSE OF WHERE THE CAR WAS MADE. SO I AM CONFUSED, 1 PART OF THE CAR IS RECALLED IF IT WAS PUT IN ONE PLANT, BUT THE SAME PART PUT IN ANOTHER PLANT ISN'T. THEY WERE ALL MADE IN ONE PLANT, SO WHY DOES IT MATTER WHERE IT WAS INSTALLED. THE PART IS DEFECTED, IF I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THIS HAPPENED, AND HAD AN ACCIDENT, WOULD IT BE MY FAULT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS MADE IN A SAFE FACTORY WHERE THE PART IS NOT BEING RECALLED? SAME PART, SAME PROBLEM, WHY ISN'T THIS BEING RECALLED WITH THE OTHERS.

THE CAR TURNED OFF AS I WAS REVERING ACROSS THE STREET, I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK IN ORDER TO RESTART THE CAR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE AND SAID THEY COULD NOT GET ME IN FOR AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL 12/15. ON 12/14/2014, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ~25MPH, MY CAR STARTED TO ACT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO QUIT, BEFORE I COULD PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR TURNED OFF AND SAID "PRESS BRAKE TO START" I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AS I DID I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT JUST KEPT ROLLING OVER AND I HAD TO PUSH THE START BUTTON TO GET IT TO STOP, AS I DID, THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS, COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND THEY HAVE CLOSED MY CASE SAYING THERE IS NOT AN ISSUE. IT IS NOW AT A 2ND DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CAN NOT FIND AN ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD TO CONTINUE DRIVING MY CAR UNTIL THE ISSUE HAPPENS AGAIN, WHICH IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR MY PERSONAL AND OTHERS SAFETY AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN THE CAR QUITS, I HAVE HARDLY ANY CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE AND LUCKILY I HAVE BEEN GOING AT SLOW PACE, BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AND FEEL LIKE FORD HAS GIVEN UP ON ME. THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE I'VE HAD IT WITH 9 RECALLS AND NOW THIS ISSUE, I AM CONCERNED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS ISSUE AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *JS UPDATED 2/11/16 *JS

The warning light came on again. I left the car at a nearby garage, but they are closed until Jan 2, because of the holiday. I could have gotten into an accident. Other vehicles were flashing their lights and honking as I had to drive very slowly with my hazards on to get to the repair station. This is truly a safety issue with my 2013 Ford Fusion.

My 2013 Ford Fusion SE had the high pressure fuel pump start leaking and dripped fuel on the exhaust and started the car on fire while driving down the road. This caused about $7,000.00 in damage but could have easily gotten out of control and caused injury or death to occupant(s). I reached out to Ford Motor Company and did a chat log asking for assistance and to make them aware. Ford Motor Company Case number CAS-34734107-H6J0Z5. What is dangerous about this design is that Ford chose to design and install a secondary high pressure fuel pump directly above the exhaust manifold and the engineers surely would have known the durability and longevity along with possible outcomes due to normal use over time. For the same reason you are not to refuel a hot engine, a fuel pump should not be placed directly over the exhaust manifold. I believe Ford Motor Company should be held accountable for their finished product liability. This is dangerous enough that they should remove these vehicles from service until a safe solution is available and deployed in my opinion.

AFTER STOPPING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR IN COLUMBUS, A 'STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY' ERROR MESSAGE REAPPEARED UPON RESTARTING AND STEERING BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. SEVERAL SUBSEQUENT RESTARTS MADE NO DIFFERENCE. A SHORT TEST DRIVE CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT (EVEN WITH TWO HANDS) AT SPEEDS FROM 0 TO 20 MPH. THE STEERING EFFORT DID NOT APPEAR TO DECREASE WITH INCREASED SPEED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE THEY 'VERIFIED PULL CODES, CLEAR CODES, UPDATED PSCM.RD TEST RESET PASS' (SEE ATTACHED REPAIR DOCUMENTATION). VEHICLE HAS BEEN OPERATING NORMALLY IN THE BRIEF PERIOD SINCE THEN (~100MI). IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THE SEVERELY COMPROMISED STEERING OCCURRED AT STARTUP. STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT EVEN FOR A 225 POUND MALE. A PETITE FEMALE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STEER AT ALL. HAD THE LOSS OCCURRED UNEXPECTEDLY AT HIGH SPEED, IT COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE FACT THAT THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE MAKES ME SUSPICIOUS THAT THEY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM. IF SO, I THINK A RECALL IS WARRANTED BEFORE ANYONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. THE RESULT OF THIS SOFTWARE PROBLEM IS JUST AS SERIOUS AS A MECHANICAL FAILURE SINCE IT RESULTS IN NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. *TR

  • 12/22/2025· EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Turn signal prematurely cancels intermittently, in middle of turn or prior to starting turn. This is after the signal stalk switch has been locked into the continuous on position, not the momentary position. The slightest movement of the steering wheel back away from the direction of turn will induce this. Not a full 1/8 of a turn back, but a very minute amount, as little as 1 or 2 degrees of steering movement. This is a known issue by the manufacturer, as they have service bulletin instructions for dealership technicians to reprogram the steering column signal switch, however, this repair is cost prohibitive at dealership rates. It is a safety concern, as the signal sometimes cancels without immediate driver awareness, as attention is being focused outside. This should be a recall repair covered by the manufacturer.

The vehicle was repaired by a Ford dealership by replacing the entire gear shift cable. This repair was considerably more expensive than just replacing the bushing itself which they claimed was not possible. No warning lights or messages were indicated before the failure.
