  VEHICLE ENGINE COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE DURING DRIVING. DUE TO AMOUNT OF OIL WAS LEAKING SPITING ON WIRES AROUND THE HOT ENGINE. I FOUND AS JUST PARKED ON MY DRIVE WAY SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE HOOD. WE OPENED THE HOOD HUGE SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. I CALLED DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO TOW THE VEH. TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAID, IT HAPPENED DUE TO THE VACUUM PUMP ISSUE. CHECKED WITH BMW USA SAID NO SUCH RE-CALL.. BUT FOR ME 5-6 YRS OLD VEHICLE SPECIALLY BMW COULD HAVE PUT FAMILY IN DANGER. ENCLOSED PICTURE SHOWING BROKEN /TUBE PIPE. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT OIL CHANGE AND OTHER JOB WAS PERFORMED JUST COUPLE OF WEEK AGO LEAK WASN'T CAUGHT BY THE SERVICE MAN.

  THE AUTO START STOP MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN RESTARTING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR SHIFTED INTO PARK RATHER THAN REMAINING IN DRIVE. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IS START-STOP TRAFFICE CONDITIONS WHEN DRIVERS BEHIND THE CAR BELIEVE THAT IT WILL MOVE WITH THE BRAKE IS RELEASED. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was knocking in the engine and the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the temperature gauge was faulty and needed to be replaced. No repairs were performed. The contact stated that after the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic and the dealer, the engine seized while driving, causing the vehicle to lose motive power. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and declined the engine replacement. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

  I WAS GOING 50 MPH ON THE SAWMILL PARKWAY. THERE WAS A RED LIGHT AHEAD AND I TOUCHED THE BRAKES TO STOP. THE CAR DID NOTHING SO I PUSHED HARDER ON THE PEDAL. IT TOOK A LOT OF STRENGTH TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. I CONTINUED 20 MINUTES TO MY GARAGE IN MANHATTAN WITH NO INCIDENT. I ARRIVED HOME TO FIND A RECALL LETTER FROM BMW INFORMING ME OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER BRAKES: "RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 13V-454: VACUUM PUMP OIL SUPPLY". WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY HAD NO IDEA OF THIS RECALL. WHEN I GO ON BMW'S WEBSITE AND INPUT MY VIN, IT SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE LETTER FROM BMW STATES, "IF YOU NOTICE A DECREASE OF POWER BRAKE ASSIST, DO NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE". THE LETTER ALSO STATES THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS YET IN THIS COUNTRY TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. WHEN I PHONE THE NUMBER TO CONTACT BMW REGARDING THIS MATTER, THERE IS A RECORDING THAT TALKS ABOUT A "BRAKE LIGHT" PROBLEM WITH THE X5 AND NOTHING ABOUT THE BRAKES OF THE X1. MY DEALER TOWED THE CAR AND GAVE ME ANOTHER X1 AS A LOANER. WHEN I INQUIRED IF THE LOANER WAS ALSO PART OF THE RECALL, THEY COULD NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION.   Cam shaft broke during driving, lost acceleration on interstate causing issues merging to get to shoulder of road. Caused damage to motor resulting in oil loss, significant smoking from engine hindering visibility. Verified by BMW certified mechanic that this is the problem. Stated most likely caused by a known timing chain issue with Bmws using that motor. The only indication that appeared was when it happened, screen inside car stated "engine malfunction"

  1- The component failed (timing chain and and oil pump chain broke inside the engine compartment. The car is located in the BMW yard and is available for inspection at BMW Shrewsbury MA. 2. The safety was extremely dangerous. The engine suddenly and stop in the high speed Route 20 State highway. The timing chain and the oil pump have been complete damage and could not be fix. The only solution is replacing the engine and cost about 18000.00. If I get hit from the back I be killed immediately. 3- the vehicle or component has been inspect by the BMW technician. 4-There was a brief moment there was a very loud ai the engine and red flashing lit up the low oil.

  In June of 2024 heavy smoke began to come from my BMW X1's engine as I drove and parked at traffic lights. On July 26, 2024 I took my vehicle to BMW of Montgomery, Alabama where they performed a diagnostic test and concluded that the vehicle had an "oil leak". On July 31, 2024 my vehicle was repaired (the oil pan and valve cover gasket) by Nalley BMW of Decatur, Georgia. On October 19, 2024 my vehicle received an oil change at Nalley BMW of Decatur, Georgia. On [XXX] my vehicle's engine began to smoke again. On October 29, 2024 I called Nalley BMW of Decatur and they scheduled for my vehicle to come in for a Diagnostic Scan and they stated the following repairs (replacements) needed to be done: Cylinder Head Assembly-plastic valve cover is cracked and leaking. Replace Oil filter Housing and cooler Gasket (showing signs of leak) after repair clean oil from engine. I was told by Eric Noj my Service Advisor at Nalley BMW of Decatur, Georgia that the oil was leaking onto the exhaust and the vehicle could catch a fire while driving. I was also told due to the manufacturer BMW making the majority of its engine parts out of plastic to be more eco friendly it's more susceptible to leaks even after having repaired the leak in August 2024.

APPARENTLY FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS MODEL HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CABLE AND ALSO WITH PARASITIC COMPONENTS CONSTANTLY DRAINING THE BATTERY.   While pulling up to a red light and after coming to a complete stop, I sensed the engine was revving. While pressing down on the brake, I checked the RPM gauge to see the engine was revving at around 7k rpm. I tried to immediately put the car in park and turn off the ignition, but in the time it took me to move my hand from the steering wheel to the shifter, the car violently lurched forward and crashed into a pickup truck in front of me. I shut off the car momentarily. Realizing I was blocking traffic on a heavily traveled highway, I risked turning the car back on. I did so and was able to move it to the median to await the arrival of the state police. Later, I had the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop out of fear of driving it again. It is currently in the shop.

  Coolant Pump Electrical Connector Recall #24V-608 Program Control Units (DME) Recall #20E-A01 I am following up because my dealer was unable to complete the DME recall, and the coolant pump recall still shows as incomplete in NHTSA. My vehicle was moved off-site without my consent. I received no updates or documentation, and the dealer was dismissive. My car’s condition has declined due to unresolved recalls. I have already spent over $2,000 replacing the coolant pump and now face a $5,000 repair quote and potential off-site garage fees. Description of the issue: Dealer failed to complete DME recall Coolant pump recall shows as incomplete Vehicle moved off-site without your consent Customer Relations unhelpful and rude Financial impacts ($2k coolant pump repair in December, $5k quote, off-site fees) Requests: 1. Confirm in writing which recalls are open and applicable to my VIN. 2. Properly complete the DME recall (#20E-A01) at no cost, including any module replacement. 3. Ensure NHTSA reporting for #24V-608 is accurate. 4. BMW must restore my vehicle to proper operational standards. 5. Reimburse reasonable costs caused by the dealer’s mishandling, including garage fees and prior repair costs. 6. Provide a case number and timeline for all actions.

The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that no issues were found, however, the brake sensor system was reset. The contact stated the failure reoccurred while driving and coming to a stop. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that no issues were found. The contact stated while driving at 20-25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond and went all the way to the floorboard, causing the vehicle to crash into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was not filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the independent mechanic with assistance. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V627000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) as her VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

  Driver's side door on my 2013 BMW X1 sDrive28i will not open using either the outside door handle or the inside door handle. The door locks open and close using either the remote key fob or the key inserted into the driver's side door, but the driver's side door will not physically open. The other doors, as well as the rear hatch, do open. The mechanical part of the door lock actuator that holds the door latch to the striker plate on the frame on the driver's side door is stuck in the closed position. When you pull on the either the outside or inside door handle, the door moves ever so slightly but the door will not open. In order to lock the car after trying to open the driver's side door, one needs to then push the driver's side door in slightly so that is clicks shut. This will due to the slight movement when trying to open the door. Otherwise, the car locking mechanism will not work (i.e. none of the doors will lock) using either the remote key fob or the key in the door. This failure happened suddenly without warning. This is a safety issue because it makes it difficult to exit the vehicle in an emergency. Not being able to open the driver's side door is also a MAJOR inconvenience. The right front door actuator failed at 23,844 miles and was replaced under warranty. BMW door actuators used on the 2013 BMW X1 are not reliable. I have driven several other brands of cars over 200,000 miles and for more than 10 years and never once had a problem with the door lock mechanism and I certainly have never had a problem which left me unable to open the driver's side door.

  We noticed a gasoline smell when our BMW X1 sDrive28i was parked our the garage. We parked the car outside until the vehicle was taken to be diagnosed and repaired the next day. The diagnosis was that the driver's side fuel sending unit assembly was leaking. The mechanic who replaced the fuel sending unit assembly stated that the leak was bad enough the leaking gasoline could have caught fire.

  TAKATA RECALL. I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME SELLING OR TRADING IN THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE RECALL. NOBODY WILL TAKE IT AND I AM LOSING MONEY BECAUSE OF IT. THIS ISN'T ACCEPTABLE IN MY OPINION. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH TOYOTA, LEXUS, MAZDA OR NISSAN.

  There needs to be a recall for water intrusion to the parking distance control system in at minimum the 2013 BMW X1. Our whole camera system and parking sensors went out, as soon as I searched the problem, there were numerous forums advising of the issue. When I opened up the area in the trunk, the entire area was filled with water. The parts within all need to be replaced. This should be covered by BMW since this is such a huge issue.

  I GOT A RECALL NOTICE MORE THEN A YEAR AGO AND WAITED FOR FURTHER NOTIFICATION WHEN THE PARTS WILL ARRIVE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. BUT I STILL WAITING FOR PARTS. I WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY HAD ASKED TO CALL 1-800 # AND FIND OUT FROM THE COMPANIES HEADQUARTERS WHEN THEY'LL BE AVAILABLE. I DID CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD THAT IT DEPENDS FROM LOCAL DEALER. SO, I WENT BACK TO THE DEVON BMW AND RECEPTIONIST TOLD ME THAT WILL NOTIFY MY ADVISOR AND HE'LL BE BACK WITH INFO, BUT THIS DID NOT HAPPENED. STILL WAITING FOR ANSWER ABOUT 2 MONTHS ALREADY. I'M DRIVING WITH THIS CAR LONG DISTANCES AND WOULD LOVE TO BE SAFE. USUALLY MY 18Y.O. DAUGHTER IS SITTING NEXT TO ME AND I REALLY HOPE THAT THOSE AIRBAGS WON'T HURT US ONE DAY. PLEASE HELP US.

  The contact owns a 2013 BMW X1. The contact stated that while shifting into park(P) and turning off the vehicle, there was white smoke coming from under the hood and entering the cabin through the air vents. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence; however, the failure progressed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and remained for additional tests. BMW of Minnetonka (15802 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391) and Walser Subaru St. Paul (740 Concord St S, South St Paul, MN 55075) were contacted; however, the parts were not available for the repair. The contact believed that the failure was possibly related to NHTSA Campaign: 24V608000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System); however, the contact was not notified of the recall. The contact stated that upon further investigation, Metrowerks BMW (1300 American Blvd W, Bloomington, MN 55420); was contacted for parts availability. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

  I'm not sure If I need to report BMW for declining to repair a recall known as 24V-608. I went to my local BMW dealership Valley Auto World BMW In Fayetteville, NC. The first time we went they said they put a cover over the wiring connector for oil or water dripping from the PCV hose. When we went their were no engine codes and a week after they perform the inspection I got engine codes regarding the water pump codes are U0079 - U019F. I got this when It was at night. The following morning I went out and unplugged the connector and corrosion was on the connector. I proceed to clean the connector pins with isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. I also added Dielectric grease to the inside of the water pump connector before I found out that there was corrosion on the connector pins. The codes did not go away. The following morning the pump stopped working so I removed It and corrosion was on the pins for the water pump. I took It to the dealership and the said neither corporate or the dealership would not repair the vehicle because they said they got photos before they put the connector protector on and I said I got photos after they put It on. They are trying to pull you removed It so It was your fault. Like I have the right to repair my own vehicle and you still want to make It seem like I'm the one who put the corrosion there just to get a free pump. I stood In the rain trying to repair the vehicle on the lot but they said we had to get off the property and called the cops. The cops let us continue adding a replacement pump to the car and after I got It on there the engine lights went out.
