- STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEMCampaign 14V284000 · 29/05/2014
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist.
Risk: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.
- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMPCampaign 16V777000 · 26/10/2016
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured February 26, 2009, to April 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured February 25, 2009, to December 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0L engine, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) may crack, causing a fuel leak.
Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S41.
- SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARINGCampaign 15E045000 · 03/06/2015
The Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from January 22, 2015, to May 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 Ford Escape, 2001-2011 Mazda Tribute, and 2005-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
Risk: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.

WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT ENGAGE. AFTER ONE OR MORE TRIES IT WILL FINALLY ENGAGE. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THE STEERING DISENGAGED WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD TO BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED AS ABOVE. MY LOCAL GARAGE FOUND ERROR CODE B1342 AND CONFIRMED BY A FORD DEALER. THE CODE MEAN THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SAID THE VEHICLE IN NOT COVERED BY THE RECAĺL 14S05. I SPOKE TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A CASE # WAS OPENED. WHEN I CALLED TO INQUIRE KEVIN SAID A CASE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OPENED AND AN INTERNAL INQUIRY WOULD BE STARTED. FORD OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T WANT COMPLAINTS RECORDED. THIS IS A FORD MISTAKE AND A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED AT THEIR EXPENSE. FORD EXECUTIVES ARE UNACCOUNTABLE AND APPARENTLY ONLY WORRIED ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE AND THEIR BONUSES. THEY TRIED TO MEET THEIR SAFETY OBLIGATION BY UPDATING SOFTWARE IN SOME VEHICLES THAT WARNS STEERING IS ABOUT TO FAIL. THAT IS UNETHICAL AND NO HELP WHEN GOING 70 MPH ON A THREE OR FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. THIS REMINDS ME OF THE PINTO FIASCO.

We were sitting in a parking lot and the car was started, the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. No one’s safety was at risk. This is the first time this has happened, we have had the car since July 2024, we have not taken it to a mechanic yet. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. There was no warning light or other symptoms prior to this event.

I NOTICED SOME EXTREME FOGGING AND A STRANGE SMELL IN MY CAR. THE CAR HAD JUST TURNED OVER 75,000, AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THE HEATER COIL HAD GONE OUT. SO, HE DICONNECTED THE HEATER COIL. AFTER THAT, THE ENGINE FANS WERE RUNNING LOUDLY. ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS LATER, THE FAN ASSEMBY BROKE-A PIECE OF THE ASSEMBY CAME OFF. ALL THIS OCCURED WHILE DRIVING.

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND STALLED TO A VERY SLOW SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WITH ENGINE BARELY RUNNING. AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF AND PREPARING TO CALL AAA, TRIED STARTING ENGINE AND IT RAN FINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR FOR A CODE CHECK. CODE WAS P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN. I AM JUST GOING OUT OF WARRANTY (30 DAYS AGO IS 3RD ANNIVERSARY OF PURCHASE) AND FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BEYOND THE WARRANTY. HAD THIS HAPPENED WITH TRAFFIC CLOSE BEHIND AT 70 MPH, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS THE SLOWING WAS DRAMATIC WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. THIS CONDITION IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

The engine cradle mount that holds the lower control arm failed because of severe rot but only one mount is rotted, very localized. Have picture of failed piece. The broken mount cause the passenger side front tire to move independently from the drive side wheel and makes it have hard to steer straight. Called dealer and it’s a very well known problem, you guys did a recall with early models and all ford did was put a brace in and didn’t address the extreme rot in the engine cable. Has not been inspected by anyone but picture shows the issue, problem exist on passenger side only

I HAVE ALREADY FILED ONE COMPLAINT REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT FIXED IN JULY AND 3 WEEKS AFTER I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED IT STARTED MESSING UP AGAIN. THE THROTTLE BODY HASN'T GONE OUT AGAIN BUT IT BOGS DOWN LIKE IT IS GOING TO SHUT OFF AT ANY GIVEN SECOND. AND ALSO WITH THE PART MALFUNCTIONING IT WREAKS HAVOC ON MY GAS MILEAGE. BEFORE THE PART MESSED UP AND WAS REPLACED I WAS AVERAGE ABOUT 370 MILES ON A TANK OF GAS AND NOW I AM ONLY GETTING ABOUT 266. THE PART IN UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY WON'T REPLACE IT UNTIL IT GOES COMPLETELY OUT. IT ONLY HAS A 12 MONTH OR 12000 MILE WARRANTY ON IT AND I AM AFRAID THAT IT IS GOING TO GO OUT AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I WILL BE LEFT FOOTING THE BILL AGAIN. ALSO WHEN IT BOGS DOWN THE SCENT OF RAW GAS IS OVERWHELMING AS IT FILLS THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. I AM A MOTHER OF 2 AND THIS IS MY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL GO OUT AND I WILL BE HIT AND THE GAS FUMES ISN'T GOOD FOR THEM TO BE INHALING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD MOTOR COMPANY WON'T REPLACE THEM SINCE THEY ARE VERY AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. *TR

TRAFFIC JUST STARTED TO GO SO, I JUST TOOK MY FOOT OF THE BRAKE AND SLOWLY PROCEEDED TO MOVE, WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE I WAS THROWN FORWARD AND OUT OF MY SEAT. THE VIOLENT IMPACT PUSHED MY VEHICLE INTO A TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME, THAT IMPACT CAUSED ME TO FLY BACKWARDS AND MY DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE. WHILE BACKING FROM A DRIVE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER/ELECTRONIC STEERING. I HAVE DRIVEN OLDER VEHICLES WITHOUT POWER STEERING BUT THIS WAS TWICE AS HARD TO TURN. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME AND HAD TO MAKE SURE TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR AT INTERSECTIONS TO AVOID OTHER TRAFFIC WHEN TURNING SINCE I COULD NOT AVOID GOING INTO OPPOSING LANES. RESET ITSELF LATER BUT WENT BACK OUT A WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MUCH AND HIT A SMALL AMOUNT OF SLUSH. LIMPED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING SHE PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL IT. REVIEWS ONLINE SHOW THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2008 THAT I CAN SEE. ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH THE POSSIBILITY DOES INCREASE IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR

ON DECEMBER 22, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 6 PM, OUR SON WAS LOADING GROCERIES HE HAD JUST PURCHASED INTO THE BACK OF THE ESCAPE, WHEN HE CLOSED THE REAR LIFT GATE WINDOW, IT SIMPLY SHATTERED INTO SMALL PIECES. MY SON SUFFERED A SMALL ABRASION ON ONE KNUCKLE BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THERE HAD BEEN NO CRACKS OR OTHER SIGNS OF DEFECT IN THE WINDOW. THERE IS A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETIN (TSB-11-2-9) ON THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN WE CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND MENTIONED THE TSB, THEY SAID THAT FORD WOULD NOT PAY T O FIX IT AND THAT THE TSB WAS MERELY INSTRUCTIONS TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS ON HOW TO FIX IT. THIS IS BULL. WE ARE AWARE THAT NHTSA HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN 40 COMPLAINS ON THIS ISSUE. OUR SON WAS INJURED, THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

I have lost power steering x 2 on the freeway, 70 mph. I had it in for repair at a Ford dealership, they said it was the alternator and repaired with new alternator. Started to loose power steering again, same situation. Now I read that there are hundreds of other people with similar problems, Ford has done a limited recall but has left the rest of us with no recourse. How can all of us get this information in mass before someone does get killed. There have been accidents and some injuries to those recalled, but nothing for the rest of us. Are we just to keep driving these unsafe cars? This is reportedly the EPS system. Ford says there should be a warning light, but mine has had no such warning lamps.

THE 3RD TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS SLOWING TURNING LEFT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, HAD THE CAR NOT CUT OFF, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFE TO CLEAR THE INTERSECTION HOWEVER IT CUT OFF MAKING THE ONCOMING DRIVER SWERVE INTO THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID HITTING ME. IT'S VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AT 55MPH GOING EAST ON 301. I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN TO TURN LEFT ONTO 305, CROSSING OVER 301 WEST. AFTER STOPPING, I ACCELERATED TO CROSS OVER 301 WEST TO TURN ONTO 305 AND THE ENGINE DIED. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO DRIFT ACROSS THE ROAD AND MADE IT SAFELY ONTO THE SHOULDER OF 301. IF I DIDN'T I WOULD HAVE BEEN T-BONED BY CARS TRAVELING <55+MPH. *TR
- 12/17/2012· ENGINE
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR I SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING, LIGHT ETC, BEGAN TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANY FORWARD POWER. I PULLED OVER, TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I STARTED IT BACK UP, DROVE DOWN THE BERM AT ABOUT 15-20 AND IT DID IT AGAIN; I STOPPED TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND MANAGED TO GET OFF THE INTERESTATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY; THIS WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT CAME ON THE VEHICLE. ABOUT $382.00 LATER MY CAR SEEMS TO BE DOING OKAY. MY POINT.....THIS IS DANGEROUS, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS - LUCKILY I DIDN'T HAVE A TRACTOR TRAILER BEARING DOWN ON ME....HOWEVER, THERE WERE SEVERAL HORNS AND ABRUPT STOPS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
